Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) or Osteopathic Medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on the relationship between musculoskeletal health and the general health of the patient.
The goal of OMT is to reduce pain, improve function, and increase healthy movement. It is based on the principle that all bodily functions are interrelated and must be considered and treated together.
Osteopathic physicians are trained to use their hands to diagnose, assess, treat, and help prevent injury related to the musculoskeletal system in the whole body as a system.
Osteopathic treatment ranges from gentle and subtle cranial osteopathic techniques to more direct techniques that manually correct the bony structure and many techniques in between. These techniques are used to correct muscle imbalances that can cause injury or interfere with normal joint and musculoskeletal motion.
Sometimes appointments include other things such as workplace ergonomics or teaching simple exercises for home usage to speed recovery from acute and chronic issues.
Osteopathy is a type of medicine that can help treat a lot of different conditions. People of all ages can benefit from it, including babies, kids, adults, pregnant women, and seniors.
